The World Health Organization has finally through its "cancer research arm" the International Agency for Research on Cancer, has classified processed meat such as bacon, ham, sausages, and deli meats as a Group 1 carcinogen.
Carcinogens do not usually cause cancer instantly. They work by damaging DNA, interfering with normal cell repair and promoting chronic inflammation. Over time, this leads to cells growing in an uncontrolled way.
It is far less costly to change your diet today than to repair your body later. Changes made now can have a powerful long term impact. Current projections suggest that around one in two people will develop cancer at some point in their lifetime. You do not control every risk, but you do have influence over what you eat each day. Start making those changes now and give your body the best chance to stay well.

These are all primary scientific or medical authority sources.
They consistently show that processed meats are linked to increased cancer risk, particularly colorectal cancer, due to nitrates, nitrites, nitrosamines, heme iron, and high temperature processing.
