In the Autism chapter of my book, I share the story of a young boy who quietly changed the way I understand neurodevelopment, immunity, and healing.
He was not broken.
He was not failing.
He was responding intelligently to a terrain that had become overwhelming.
From the outside, his behaviours were labelled.
Inside his body, there was adaptation.
His immune system was not attacking him. It was compensating.
His nervous system was not defective. It was protecting.
His biology was doing the best it could with the signals it was receiving.
As we began to look beyond symptoms and diagnoses, a different picture emerged.
Layers of immune confusion.
Inflammatory signalling.
Environmental burden.
A terrain asking for clarity, not suppression.
What stood out most was this.
When the terrain was supported, his body began to reorganise.
Not overnight.
Not dramatically.
But steadily.
One layer at a time.
Connection improved.
Regulation improved.
Presence returned.
This story is not about a cure.
It is about understanding.
Autism is not a single condition.
It is an expression of biology responding to complexity.
When we stop trying to force change and instead listen to the immune system, the nervous system, and the terrain as a whole, we open the door to real progress.
